Just last month we announced some big news about Volvo Cars and Polestar, and hot off that news, Volvo Cars has dropped another big one on us: starting in 2019, every vehicle Volvo Cars launches will have an electric motor. This marks a huge shift for the Scandinavian automaker and the automotive sector as a whole.

Most fans of the Volvo lineup know about Polestar, the formerly-sub-brand of Volvo meant for performance driving, which Volvo formally acquired in 2015—but most Volvo fans are probably used to seeing that electric blue color and the Polestar name on special edition Volvo models and on the track. That will all change relatively soon, however; since Volvo Cars has just announced that Polestar will be establishing its own, standalone brand!
